You know you're in a good guild if you are the leader and declare it a monarchy... then people start bowing down to you and calling you "Your Highness."

.... you threaten the use of Unyielding Aura and you start getting taunted into emote wars.

And we're all just laughing in front of our respective computers.

Hmm... all in all I have to say the #1 sign of a good guild is lots of laughter.

You know when you are in a bad guild when :-

After much intense badgering you agree to move to the US servers to be with the rest of the guild (even though most of them are from Europe anyway). This is after joining the guild on the proviso that I did not HAVE to move servers in the first place. Shortly after joining and moving servers you take a long weekend off to visit old uni friends. On coming back and logging on you find that the guild has self-destructed (after an arguement about something really trivial), leaving yourself and the leader as the only ones left.

Thats when you take a 3 month break, move back to euro servers and decide that you are never switching servers again. I suppose I did not help myself when I refused to go to the UW on general principles (I passionately do not believe in a pvp aspect of the game affecting where you can go in pve and still don't). I am surprised that you are still limited to 5 server switches still, thought they were getting rid of that.

Quick question: Do people in other guild use guild chat as a means to have a casual chat with other guildies e.g. how was your day?. The guild im in only has these words going through the guild chat:

1. Hey *other person* can you go UW farm with me
2. I'm two ecto away from FoW armor
3. Hey *other person again* can you help me with SF farming
4. Can i have ***** gold, colth etc.
5. Can somone run me too ****
6. Hi Everyone
7. Bye Everyone

From the first hour i joind i heard 4&5 alot of times.

I had more friendly talk in ten minutes with two people in maguuma stade last night who just Hi and we started talking. That was the first time i have had a friendly chat in 6 months of playing.

I havent been in a good guild so i cant say "You know you’re in a good Guild when:"

But i can say "You know your in a bad guild when..."
- The leader logs in for 10 minutes every 5 days
- You have more than 50 people but 35 of them havent been on for more than 2 months.
- You ask somone a question and they answer it but when they do you feel like they just want you to shut up, so you end up feeling like an outcast.
- One of the members says good night and gets 8 replys, you say it and get one.
- One of the members name is Pwn Ur Ass or Uber Warrior and they act like jerks but no one kicks them becuase they want alot of members in the guild.
- Somone in the guild says "can someone help me with borliss pass" and your the only person to respond, everyone else say that they are to busy farming griffons or ettins.
- Your leader posts builds on your website, but they're FOtM builds from other forums like IWAY and EoE bomb, and doest want to try anything else becuase he says "They must be awsome becuase everyone else is using them".

for me a good guild is talkative/helpful/giving and active (been in 2)

bad guild - only PVP/non active/more worried about money then having a laugh (been in too many 2 count)

my current guild always says hello goodbye etc asking for price checks or just general chat

another example of a bad guild imo is a guild who asks you to submit a essay/application form on why u should be chosen to join <<wtf a game is for fun not for life

right now, im in a great guild, we dont know anyone in real life though we know them all well, ive been in my guild for aobut 3-4 months, we all call each other by there real names, and we dont use vent just for pvp, we use it for regular chat etc.
our officers adn guild leader is very nice and there always willing to help, though we have some members who arent all that helpful, a member we recruited recently was sort of the opposite of what my guild is like, when he came, he begged for money, then spammed on the guild chat that he needed help with this and that, and also left half way through missions, runs etc that he asked for help with.
if ur guild is like the first part of my post, its a good one , though if its on the second part of my post its a bad one .
my first guild wasnt too bad, they were nice and helpful though 90% of the time i logged on there was no more then 3 ppl on

I totally agree. My guild was originally started in another game because a group of us on the forums got to joking around and RP'ing. It went on for a while and finally turned into an ingame joke. We eventually formed a guild based off of this.

Anytime someone needed something, we gave it. It wasn't asked of us, it just happened. If one of us got some cool loot we couldn't use, we saved it for a guild member. The crafter's in our guild made serious money and the other's hunted and gathered the resources to supply the crafter, who passed around the wealth. We were always cutting up in GuildChat and TeamSpeak. Our guild was never very big, but that was OK. We got along fine and always helped each other out with whatever was needed. Most of all, we became friends. We're all scattered between several games now, but we still email and IM each other.

first guild was comparable to a house with a decaying roof and drug addicts coming in and out daily [log on, load up, fall out]

guild announcements were used as communication to offline guildies

the few good members in it jumped to a friends guild and now it's growing growing.

everyone in the new guild is friendly and such, we used to farm together moreso, but not so much this past week.

if someone gets a green someone else was looking for, whoever needs it gets it.

we're just cool like that.

The top two reasons a good guild is good (revised):

1. Fun. If the people aren't fun to be with/talk to, why are you there? (Our guild has a bunch of people who know each other IRL, and it an get pretty amusing to say the least)

2. You have a place! I can't even begint o count how many times I joined a guild, and just felt out of place. I've been in them all; from completely mute, to overhelpful, and get put-out when the 'new recruit' doesn't need their help. The people that seem to have bad guild experiences over and over tend to be quiet, and overly serious. I know my place in my guild. I am the PvE officer in a PvP directed guild. What a match, eh?

[sarcasm] All in all though, the only way to tell if you are in a good guild is if you are in the top 100 on the ranking [/sarcasm]

Oh, lord.. brings back some memories... my first character (and my favorite) was/is a monk/ranger.... and yes, I definately was rockin' a 10 in marksmanship and using a bow, and probably around a 2 in divine favor... oh, how I got yelled at in GvG

in any event, bad: players on their first character ALWAYS asking for $$$
good: constant stream of friendly banter in guildchat

My experiences so far:

BAD guilds:

Guild 1
-after 1 week being a member i was the only one who came online. If there was someone online, he / she didnt talk to me what so ever.

Guild 2
-filled with a bunch of immature kids who formed groups on there own. if i asked to join i couldnt because i was :a) to inexperienced or b) not an officer.
-if i was longer offline then 5 days the guildleader or officers would kick me.
-we couldnt participate or organize team arena's or any form of PvP without the guildleaders approval.

Guild 3
Absolutely the best guild ever! (IMO)
All friendly, mature ppl who always are willing to help if you need it.
There are members grouping together, but they are open so if u wanna join its no problem.
Guildleader and officers are just great. Very experienced too (as it should be ^^)

Last time we were doing GvG, and after a couple wins & losses one of the officers suggested that more members had monks. I was already planning a build for a monk before he said that, so i told him i was gonna make one, along with another guild member.
So...we both made monks, got through pre searing. we arrived in Ascalon (lvls 3 & 5), and the officer ran us ALL the way to DROKNAR!!!
When we arrived there he bought us both complete Droknar armor!
In a few days we gonna start with powerlevelling and ascencion.
Now how's that for a guild!!!!

KENG forever!

You know your guild is good when
-There is good teamwork
-there are social/funny people
-Pikachu is one of the character's names
-You're in it

You know your guild is bad when
-You make a Guild wars Guru [GURU] Guild
<----- IT's REal! I'm not kidding.

What about guild members? When should one think about applying or looking for a guild?

I've got started with my R/me a week ago and have raised him to lvl 13.

I read under DarkWasp's post that a trait of 'bad-guilds' are public advertisements for members. That logically seems like just a ploy to garner members for the guild and not a fine filter for integrity and proactive guild-member material.

So how should someone such as I, weathered from soloing so much, attract the attention of a good guild? For on the player side, it isn't too seemly to be scavenging for a 'guild that helps its players all the time,' or, 'is a great community.'

Since such groupings would be cliques in themselves of a sort, right?

There are good guilds for whatever you do, PvE or PvP. The best way to find a good guild is to search them out, or end up playing with them and having a really good time.

If you are into PvP, the Tombs is a great place to meet people, PvE is much larger, so people are not so easy to find.

Personally, this late in the games existance, I would wait till you have ascended one or more characters before getting into a guild. At release some guilds went through the game together and that was way cool, but since people are at varying levels of play now, that is much harder to do.

ToA is the best place (from what I can tell) to find decent PvE guilds. There is usually a few groups forming up for UW/FoW trying to fill spots. It's always easier to get in if you know 5+ people rather than one.

PvP is more based on experience, and just getting into groups.

(notice, I never say look for guilds in PUG's... hint hint from my time)
